NOTHING REALLY MATTERS.
OUT THERE - RELAX - NOTHING REALLY MATTERS. NOT EVEN YOU.
Watching these NASA Webb telescope space images feels like a deep, silent meditation. I look at those endless galaxies, thousands of suns (whoa!), millions of worlds (aah!), thirty million light-years away (!!!!), and something in me stops. Our Earth is a tiny grain of sand in an infinite stretch of desert (Universe). Then further I realise - what size am I on that just speck on the sand grain? And what size are all my problems and worries?
And then all the noise fades. The problems, the plans, the need to prove or fix anything - it is gone. On that scale, nothing really matters. And somehow, that’s the most peaceful feeling there is.
Astronauts call it the “Overview Effect.” A profound shift in perception many of them experience when they see Earth from space - this tiny, fragile blue sphere suspended in endless darkness. They suddenly feel that all the borders, conflicts, ambitions, and worries that dominate our lives are utterly insignificant from a cosmic perspective.
Some say it’s like a spiritual awakening, a dissolving of ego, a deep sense of unity, and a calm knowing that you are both nothing and everything.
It’s terrifying for a split second (the ego panics), and then it’s completely liberating. Because when nothing truly matters, everything becomes precious, this breath, this moment, this tiny bit of everything.
I’ve been there too, twice; once on mushrooms, once through deep shamanic breath work - both times ending up in the same place: out in the cosmos, floating, weightless, soooo COMPLETE (or ONE, they would probably say). There is no better feeling than IT.
That’s the moment you get it.
You don’t need to try. You don’t need to matter. You just are. And that’s enough.
So whatever bothers you - just relax. Watch this amazing beauty and wasteness of the Universe and remind yourself:
Nothing really matters - even you, and whatever is happening or not.
